Cake is fucking amazing.
That’s just the honest-to-God-truth and there is no way around it.
But cake, probably isn’t what you should use as your go-to “hooray, you’re awesome” reward for obvious reasons.
Cake addiction is a legit thing, friends, and the struggle is real!
Rewarding yourself (and your loved ones) with junk food is a slippery slope and could eventually lead to an unhealthy relationship with said junk food. Instead, here are a few of my favorite treats that say, “Hey, you’re pretty great!” without all the calories of cake:
A Spa Something: This is my favorite treat to give myself!
If I have pushed myself hard for a few weeks at the gym, or hit a goal I had set for myself on the scale – a manicure or pedicure is what I am all about! There is nothing like enjoying the peaceful Zen of a spa experience. A massage, a facial, even a steamy visit to the sauna, would be a great reward to give yourself for whatever hard work you put in!
A Movie Date: Going to the movies is a fantastic way to reward someone!
This is a reward I often give to my husband. When he goes the extra mile to help me out during the week (which he often does) I treat him to a movie date and even let him pick the movie! That’s true love, folks. This would be a great reward for the youngsters in your family too, as long as you don’t over-do it at the concession counter!
A Quiet Night at Home: This would be a DREAM reward for that busy mom or dad in your life!
Sometimes there is nothing better than having the house all to yourself. You can watch whatever you want on TV, relax, read a book – literally, the world is your oyster! Take the kids and the dog out for a few hours and leave that deserving someone alone at home to do what they please. They will be overjoyed and truly feel rewarded!
That Great Dress/Shoes/Whatever: I know that I’m not the only girl who dreams about owning every dress from Anthropologie – but let’s be real, my pockets aren’t that deep & my closet can only hold so much!
I tend to find one new item – clothing, shoes, bag, whatever – and use it as my reward and motivation to reach a goal I have set. This usually works best with my big work deadlines because I tend to procrastinate. A new something in my closet is the light at the end of the tunnel that pushes me to turn off the “Catfish: The TV Show” reruns and get my work done. Have a friend who has really been working hard? This treat would totally make her day and every day she wears her reward item she’ll think of what a great friend you are!
A Genuine Gesture of Gratitude: Something as simple as a high-five or a hug is a great reward for any kind of hard work, and it doesn't cost a thing!
Giving someone a genuine gesture of gratitude – a heartfelt thank you note, or a phone call do wonders and is often much better than any materialistic gift. Tell someone they did a great job and mean it, it will make you both feel awesome!
