Well, thankfully, I am here to inform you that, that is in fact, very false.
The BEST way to burn fat that I have found is using a technique called HIIT cardio. HIIT stands for High Intensity Interval Training.
What exactly is this HIIT?
Well, basically, it is very flexible in which way you do it, but, generally speaking, it’s bringing your heart rate up and down very quickly.
You can do this on any cardio machine or even without machines as well.
One of my favorite techniques with HIIT cardio is doing “sprints.”
These can be done on any piece of cardio equipment and the difficulty can be completely up to you. However, with HIIT cardio, each session is generally about 20-30 minutes long including warm up and cool down.
During these 20-30 minutes, it will be VERY intense, and you should really be pushing yourself to the max. Here is a sample workout that can be adapted to any cardio machine:
• 5 min warm-up
• 20 minutes continuously: 30 second sprint (all out), 1:30 recovery, etc.
• 5 min cool down

I generally recommend 2-3x HIIT sessions per week, along with your lifting.
