Put Down Your Diet Coke & Artificial Sweeteners, They're Making You Fat

We’ve all had those diet soda addicts in our life or you may even be one yourself. It’s the same reaction as coffee: don’t talk to me until I’ve had my diet soda.

Now I consider myself lucky that I never got into the habit as it literally is killing people. I know that sounds harsh, but this post will show you why diet sodas and artificial sweeteners are making you fat, sick and completely unhealthy.

The Calorie Savings Are Counterproductive

“Diet soda drinkers had a 70% greater increase in waist circumference compared with non-drinkers,” according to researchers at the University of Texas.

I’m sure you’re probably asking yourself, well how can that be if it’s supposedly calorie and sugar free? After all, when you look at the Nutrition Facts on a typical diet soda can, there is nothing but zeros across the board.

Here’s what happens and it doesn’t just happen with diet soda, it happens with artificial sweeteners as well: your body is completely confused.

On the outside it seems just like sugar, but when your body tries to digest it it doesn’t know what to do with it leading to metabolic confusion and over consumption, according to the Huffington Post.

To put that into layman's terms, artificial sweeteners “send your body into fat storage mode and lead to weight gain,” according to Dr. Alpert. Sounds fun, right?

Ever Wonder Where Those Headaches or Migraines Are Coming From?

Headaches From Fake Sugars

Yep. In addition to increased risks of obesity AND type 2 diabetes, there is a plethora of resources that prove there in fact is a connection between headaches and artificial sugars and diet sodas.

While this may not be the only cause of headaches and migraines, it’s a great place to start if you do suffer from them. All you have to do is detox for at least two weeks by consuming only water and unsweetened tea and removing soda and fake sugars altogether.

You may feel like sh!t at first as your body rids itself of those nasty toxins but after a few days of detox, you should start feeling better and see a decrease in headaches.

Enjoy Taste Buds Like a Smoker

Smoker Tastebuds

After smoking cigarettes for years, smokers tend to lose their sense of taste and it becomes extremely dull. Guess what: artificial sweeteners have the same effect.

Again, how the hell is that possible? Dr. Hyman, a leading advocate in destroying the sugar addicted nation we have become, explains that artificial sweeteners can be hundreds to a thousand times sweeter than regular, white sugar. What does this do for you? It fries your taste buds.

By consuming substances that sweet, your taste buds will reject anything that’s not as sweet as your precious diet soda.

Healthy fruits end up tasting bland and completely unappealing.

Forget Mixing it With Alcohol

Again, in theory it may sound smart to order a diet rum and coke or a diet and Jack, but it could end up being one of your most dangerous decisions of the night.
“Using diet soda as a low-calorie cocktail mixer has the dangerous effect of getting you drunk faster than sugar-sweetened beverages,” according to research from Northern Kentucky University via FoxNews.
Compared to white, processed sugar, this sh!t gets absorbed much faster into your bloodstream. This could explain that burst of euphoria that diet soda addicts enjoy so much!

What to Choose, What to Lose

What Sweetener to Choose

Thanks to the clever folks that mass produce these artificial sweeteners, the mysterious names and amount of fake options has become unreal and endless. A good rule of thumb that’s probably the easiest is: avoid anything promoting zero calorie.

This could be juices, sodas, snacks, gums, mints, and even those clever little drops you can now add to your water. They’re all fake, unhealthy and making you fat.

In case you’re interested, here is a list of the most popular culprits:

  • Aspartame
  • Erythritol
  • Glycerol
  • High Fructose Corn Syrup
  • Maltitol
  • Neotame
  • Saccharin
  • Sorbitol
  • Sucralose
  • Xylitol

Avoid those Sweet ‘N Low, Equal, Nutrasweet, and Splenda packets as well as they are all derivatives of the list above.

Now, that I’ve told you almost everything is off limits, here is a list of sweeteners that are safe and healthy:

  • Agave Nectar
  • Coconut Sugar
  • Honey
  • Some Stevias*

*The only “safe” sweetener that I used to advocate for and no longer do is Stevia. Thanks to FoodBabe and her army, I’ve learned the truth.

Stevia itself is not the problem either, it’s only certain forms like Truvia that have been over processed and mass produced ruining their nutritional value just like regular sugar.

Truvia, which was bought out by Coca Cola, goes through 40 steps of processing. If that wasn’t bad enough, the manufacturers then add genetically modified ingredients to mask the now metallic flavor that surfaces due to the extra processing making it actually palatable.

Sounds yummy, doesn’t it?

Please do yourself and your family a favor and never drink or eat this sh!t again.
