Don't Fear the Carb

If you are trying to watch your weight, you have feared the carb at some point in your life (and maybe still do).

Well, I am here to change your perception of the dreaded carb!!

Now, I'm not telling you that carbs are awesome so go eat an extra-large pizza and watch you get lean.

I AM telling you that certain kinds of carbs are better than others, however, as a part of an average balanced diet, carbs can actually help you in your weight loss or fitness goals.

Carbs should actually be 50-80% of your caloric intake and there are 3 different classifications of said carbs: Monosaccharides, disaccharides, and polysaccharides.

Some more scientific info: mono = simple sugars found in fruits, di = combo of glucose and fructose, also lactose which is found in cow's milk, and poly = starch fiber found in whole grains, veggies, nuts, etc.

BUT BASICALLY, stick to the unprocessed carbs like anything that grows from the earth and check the labels; the smaller amount of ingredients on the label most likely means it's better for your digestion/better for you in general.

Here is a fun, non-scientific fact: If you are looking to grow a booty, EAT CARBS.

Carbs are especially necessary for recovery after an intense leg/lower body workout. It will fuel your muscles and help preserve lean muscle mass.

Here are some personal tips that will help you plan your carb intake accordingly until you get a full grasp on how to maintain a balance in your everyday life.

Before You Prepare A Meal, Ask Yourself What You Are Going To Be Doing For The Next 3 Hours

If the answer is going to the gym to train OR going on a walk OR being active of some sort, allow yourself more carbs. If you are going to be sitting at your desk at work, restrict yourself a little.

Simple enough.

Start Your Day With Them

My favorite breakfast is oatmeal. Invest in a giant container of some quick cooking oats and prepare to your liking.

Depending on what I'm training, I'll either have a 1/4 cup or a 1/2 a cup and prepare it with some egg whites and a 1/2 of a banana. Prime. Having oats or whole grains as your first meal of the day will make your metabolism go boom (in the best of ways).

Don't Fear Carbs After Dark

While I wouldn't recommend eating three ice cream sandwiches before bed, a healthier option might be some plain popcorn kernels. Go ahead and pop those babies up!

A little bit goes a long way (and also contains some fiber, also good for digestion). It's perfect when you are having those cravings for the hand-to-mouth and repeat times, which I constantly have, especially at night.

Find Alternatives To Your Favorite Recipes

Not going to lie, nothing can replace a slice of fresh pizza but when you are craving it and you are watching yourself, sometimes you just have to make the sacrifice.

I've been buying tortillas and making tortilla pizzas using low-fat cheese and loading it up with veggies and sauce.

Still getting a dose of carbs (good carbs at that), but you won't feel like death afterward.

As I Have Mentioned Before, Practice Moderation

If you've been on point with your diet, splurge for the pizza. Just don't eat 4 slices of it. Then, train hard and watch that booty grow!

All in all, check the label before you buy and lastly, enjoy your carbs!
