Dropping trou and baring it all is typically thought of as an act that should be reserved for the bedroom and for the one who has graciously accepted your lumps and bumps and unshaven bits. Even with that acceptance, most tend to jump under the covers or turn off the lights as quickly as humanly possible before their partner can even get a good head to toe look at them. Without thought, as to why being ashamed of our bodies has become the standard and many people do not take the time to examine themselves in front of a mirror and really look at who they are.
Believe it or not, getting naked more often can have great physiological benefits as well as some pretty awesome physical ones. I shall start with my favorite physical benefit…..ladies and gentlemen….
Sex is SOOOO much better when you are comfortable with the way you look naked. You don’t have to “like” everything about your body but when you know what you look like naked, it’s not so shocking. For amazing sex, body confidence is an absolute necessity! Sex can be pretty un-amazing when you are worried about every position and how it looks to your partner. Did you know that what actually turns on most people is not how perfect your body is but how YOU feel about it and flaunt it?
Think about it, have you ever seen someone that you personally think is not that attractive, but they seem to attract much better looking partners? You know you have. This is in part because they see themselves as a sexy beast and project that to the opposite sex. They don’t have to be perfect physically, they are comfortable being naked and therefore the attraction from others is elevated.
Self-acceptance is hard to come by today. Ask anyone you know and see if they are happy with themselves. Chances are they will say they are too fat, not pretty, and find all of the flaws that they can. When you begin to see yourself in all your naked glory more often, you will begin to appreciate your body and realize how beautiful…or handsome you really are.
Your body “flaws” won’t be as shocking. People have become so ingrained with the fear of not being accepted that they wear layer upon layer to deal with their body image. On the flip side, but with the same lack of self-acceptance, some over expose themselves in the hopes of compliments and relying on others to give them the feeling they so desperately desire but it is simply a momentary substitute for self-acceptance.
Liking yourself naked is liking yourself exposed, flawed, complicated, and undone. The better you feel about your body naked, the better you’ll feel in clothes. And clothes will not be about hiding things OR overexposing certain things but they will be about celebrating and complementing your entire body.
Although I may feel generally happy with my body most of the time, I still feel the immense pressure to be “perfect”. As a woman who has spent most of her life in the entertainment industry and a heck of a lot of time in a bikini, it has become a part of my DNA to be “perfect”.
To escape being vulnerable we cover up anything that might be viewed as “unappealing” with a ton of makeup, tanner, spanx, extra layers, or enhance our better features thus never giving ourselves the opportunity to accept that our imperfections are what make us who we are.
Embracing your vulnerability by getting naked and accepting your imperfections allows you to think and get down to the core of what really matters and what is of importance to you. When you strip away all of the excess, you are 100% you and willing to take on anything that comes your way. Also, you may stop comparing yourself to others! Oh my, did I just say that? Don’t act like you don’t and don’t act like it doesn’t just eat you alive if you think your partner thinks another person is attractive.
When you compare yourself to other people, it's a form of self-harm. It is detrimental to your feelings of self-worth and to your relationship. When you can accept your naked body as beautiful, and all its imperfections, you can accept that your partner does too. There will always be people more “beautiful” than you and when you can accept that and accept that you too are beautiful you will become a happier person and less afraid of being vulnerable in any situation…naked or not.
Researchers have discovered that "sleeping in the cold can help you shed pounds because the body's metabolism speeds up to keep you warm."
Your body’s main supply of brown adipose tissue (BAT), or good fat cells, are located around your shoulder blades and neck. When your body is exposed to the elements and is cooler, the BAT proliferates and essentially kills the white adipose tissue, aka bad fat cells. Experts say that the amount of 'brown fat', which produces heat by burning calories, doubles during cold temperatures, effectively speeding up your metabolism.
So, I think we have learned a valuable lesson here…..getting naked more often helps promote fat loss and makes you healthier. Am I suggesting you go join a naked commune to shed some pounds? Certainly not, but by sleeping naked, you can gain metabolic advantages that could, over time, lessen your risk for diabetes and other metabolic problems. Yay! More naked time and I am burning fat to boot!
So … do it! Stand naked in front of a mirror for a while. Do this more than once. Try walking around naked. Sleep naked. Have sex with the lights on, and take the time to admire your own body in action. This is not totally self-absorbed, it’s healthy and good for everyone.
