On his way to winning the World’s Strongest Viking competition for the second year in a row, Bjornsson carried a 640kg log on his back for five steps.
The tale of Orm Storulfsson and his 640kg log has been passed on through the generations in Iceland for 1000 years.
"According to the Icelandic Saga book, it took 50 men to lift the log on to Storulfsson’s back — and he was able to walk three steps before his back gave out."But that wasn’t testing enough for Bjornnson, who went two steps further according to this post on his Instagram account.
Bjornnson has made no secret of his desire to win the World’s Strongest Man competition but has so far been unsuccessful.
After third place finishes in 2012 and 2013, he finished runner-up to Lithuania’s Zydrunas Savickas last year.
The 26-year-old former basketballer paid the price for a weak performance in the squat lift discipline, scoring only 5.5 points to Savickas’s 12 to lose the overall competition 64 to 63.5.
Bjornsson was first cast as The Mountain (Gregor Clegane) for the fourth season of the HBO series Game of Thrones.
He is set to reprise the role in season five, which starts later this year.
