Looking Good & Feeling Great on a Dime with Healthy Hacks

While the mainstream media and much of what we see on social media may lead us to believe that looking good is an expensive undertaking, I can assure you that it most certainly is not. As a thrifty shopper, I am always looking for ways to stay fit without spending a lot.

With that goal in mind, we’ve compiled some quick, simple healthy hacks to help you look great without going broke!

Satisfy Your Sweet Tooth

There may be a new frozen yogurt place that just opened or a birthday at the office. Whenever you vow to lay off the sweets, it seems like an occasion presents itself, ripe with goodies to derail your latest accomplishments at the gym.

You can’t completely deny yourself, so try some faux desserts. You can try the popular ice cream recipes that use bananas or avocados as a base for an ice cream substitute. Also popular is a protein packed “cookie dough” bite, or you can experiment with chia pudding. Mint chocolate chip has been one of my favorites so far! The ingredients are often very inexpensive and you can make them at home so you don’t have to pay extra money to satisfy your craving.

Pucker Up

Are you familiar with this situation? You’ve come to the end of your favorite lip balm/gloss and now you can’t seem to find it at any store?

You don’t have to worry about this situation again, because you can make your own lip balms or glosses at home and even blend your own custom color. Not only will this save you the headache of trying to find your color when it runs out, you can just make some more. This can also be significantly healthier because you control what does or does not go into the recipe. This can save time and money, all while keeping your lips smooth and kissable.

Soft Skin

Having good skin habits now will help your skin stay looking fresh and youthful for years to come. The most basic thing is to stay hydrated. Consuming an adequate amount of water will keep your skin hydrated.

Also, by protecting your skin from UVA and UVB rays with a broad spectrum sunscreen, you can delay the aging effects of sun damage that much longer. No fancy creams or injections needed, just be good to your skin and it will be good to you.

Workout Tops

You’ve already seen the cute workout tops that are available online: “Will Run For Wine” or “Strong is the New Skinny” are a few fun ones that I can think of offhand. While they may be fun and look great, at $18 each, plus shipping and handling, is it worth it for something that is going to get dirty and washed so many times that it will fall apart in months? No thank you!

You can turn your old t-shirts into a workout tank top easily, all you need is a set of shears or sharp scissors. You still look cute and if you really want the inspirational or funny sayings, pick up a fabric sharpie for a little over a dollar and create your own unique top.
