Lifting Weights Twice Per Week Might Strengthen Your Brain

We all know the positive effects of strength training on our bodies, but did you know that there’s research showing even your brain benefits from lifting weights? As we age, we develop lesions, or holes, in our brains called “white matter.” These gaps lead to worsened cognitive abilities. Over the years, there have been many attempts to try to limit white matter. Many thought aerobic exercise was the answer, but a recent study has shown that if you engage in weight training just twice per week, you will experience less shrinkage and tattering of white matter than those who workout fewer than two times a week.
