Marcella Torres and Derek Tresize are a fun-loving couple who share common interests: both are vegan and fitness fanatics. Because of this, they found themselves with a great opportunity to show people that muscle size doesn’t just come from animal sources. The couple decided to test their hands at competing on stage alongside bodybuilding competitors who followed a meat-heavy diet. Their goal? To win. And win they did.
Most of their competitors ate almost exclusively meat as their primary protein source in preparation for the competition, but for Marcella and Derek, this was not the case. The pair kept their training routine mostly the same, yet consistently added in more cardio in addition to eating progressively less food to shed body fat. Because of this, they said they felt better than ever when the competition came around, opposed to the others who looked dehydrated.
Since then, Torres and Tresize have continued to push the envelope within bodybuilding by competing in several other competitions. They have also written a book called: The Vegan Muscle & Fitness Guide to Bodybuilding Competitions, which tackles many issues involved with eating meat and provides direction to educate those who were interested in following in their footsteps.
