4 Easy Steps That Just Might Simplify & Improve Your Life

  • On their own, things that keep you busy aren’t bad, but when you add them to all your other obligations, an activity that should be fun becomes just the opposite.
  • There are easy things you can do to simplify and make you more productive and, ultimately, happier.

“Purity and simplicity are the two wings with which man soars above the earth and all temporary nature.” —Thomas Kempis

Simplifying doesn't need to be complicated. Learning to create a quieter, more balanced space in your life can help immensely, and taking little steps is the best way to make it happen. Better decision making, outsourcing, wearing your workout clothes to bed, and drinking tea can help to keep you sane. You can start today.

1. Just Decide Already

The bottom line is that decision-making is something we all need to learn how to do. This very essential life skill should be taught from very early on since decision-making takes years of practice to master. We all drive ourselves crazy stressing over useless things. Major decisions warrant some serious considerations, but if you're weighing the pros and cons of which pie to make for the holiday, close your eyes and point. Now move on.

2. Outsource

By not delegating, you place a heavy burden on yourself. Eventually you may become so overwhelmed that your performance and even your health suffer. Outsourcing routine work will relieve some of your stress and give you more time to do the things you love.

3. Make Your Workout Clothes Your Pajamas

If you exercise in the morning, sleep in the clothes you're wearing to the gym. This will save precious time in the morning before your workout. Also, getting ready the night before also means that your preparing and committing to your workout in advance, which will help keep you accountable.

4. Keep Calm and Drink Tea

Tea leaves contain an amino acid called theanine that is associated with reducing mental and physical stress and improving cognition. So there’s some scientific background to what we already know: that a tea break can turn around a bad day, improve one’s mood, and put one’s worries into better perspective. Also, having a cup of tea gives you a chance to stop what you're doing, take a step back, and reassess. It’s important to take your foot off the accelerator every once in a while.
