When I was a kid, I always looked forward to summer because I loved to play outside! As an adult, we forget the word play and start calling things like running around, “work”. One thing we should do is, stop thinking of our work-outs as work. Start thinking of your work-outs as play. It will completely changed your attitude and focus. Before, I would constantly watch the clock, counting the minutes until my 30-minute run was up, or counting down my reps with little to no enthusiasm. It was time to switch it up!!
Lately, I have been taking my dog out in the yard and consciously playing with her. I throw her ball and chase her to it and I barely realize the time passing or the work I’m putting in. Or I race my husband in the pool to see who can swim a lap faster! I maintain that he is only beating me at this challenge because he is over a foot taller than me – which is obviously cheating -but the important thing is that we are having a blast and are working hard without noticing. Having fun is an excellent distraction!
